There is no single method that works for everyone. For now, here are some of my general observations and learnings on decluttering: I’ll review the books I read in an upcoming post. To continue moving forward and hold myself accountable, I decided to create this 52 Week Decluttering and Organizing Challenge for 2021 and share it with you. I’m happy with what I accomplished in 2020, but it’s still a work in progress. You can read my results and learnings from the challenge in What I learned from the 31 Day Declutter Challenge. I set some goals for the month and really stuck with it. In October, I got back on track with the 31 Day Declutter Challenge put out by Bonnie at Beautiful Minimal Millennial. Things got crazy at work, charity shops were no longer taking donations, and my efforts stalled for a few months. The plan was to check one item off the list every week. I made a list of areas and items in our home I wanted to declutter. Over the years, our family of four has accumulated a lot of stuff.Īt the beginning of 2020, I decided it was time to gain control over the clutter. ![]() My family lives in the house my husband and I bought when we got married 26 years ago. Let’s start with my backstory and history with clutter. Read on to learn more about the challenge. Today I’m excited to introduce my 52 Week Decluttering Challenge! I hope you’ll join me on this journey to gain control over the chaos and clutter in our lives. Day 11: Entertainment Area.Is this the year you plan to declutter your life and get organized? Well, you’re in the right place. Donate any dishes, serving ware, or other items that you do not use. Find storage solutions for all items that frequently find their way to the table. Day 10: Dining Area.Ĭommit to keeping your table clutter free. Return expired medications to your local pharmacy for proper disposal. Go through all medications and look for items that are expired or that you no longer need. Medicine is actually best stored outside of the bathroom in a cool, dry place out of the reach of children. Day 9: Medicine Cabinet/First Aid Supplies. Ensure that all Tupperware has matching lids and eliminate as many unnecessary kitchen gadgets, cookbooks, and duplicate utensils as you can. Look for any kitchen items that you do not use or have room for. If you’re all caught up, pick the most cluttered area in your home and spend a little extra time there. This is your catch up day if you didn’t finish any of the above areas. ![]() Don’t forget to go through all of those spices too! Place items that will be expiring soon towards the front of the cupboard. Toss all items that are expired and get rid of anything that you know you will not use. Day 6: Pantry and other dry food storage. Does your fridge need a deep cleaning? You can check out my fridge cleaning tips HERE. Minimize packaging when possible to save space. Remove all items from that are expired or you know you will not use. You can see our organized cleaning cabinet HERE. Toss any old rags or cloths that are at the end of their use. If you have multiple partially filled bottles of the same product, combine them into one bottle. Try to use multipurpose cleaners or green cleaning products whenever possible. You’ll receive monthly to do lists, tutorials and tips to get it all done, and tons of cleaning and organization inspiration!
